LADY PANTHER BASKETBALL WINS TWO MORE AT THE CALDWELL TOURNAMENT

The Burton Lady Panther Volleyball Team continued their winning ways yesterday (Thursday) at the 3rd Annual Caldwell Lady Hornet Basketball Tournament.

Burton defeated McCallum, who is a 5A school, in the opener 41-33. The Lady Panthers dominated the first half after outscoring the Lady Knights 17-4 in the first quarter, and 8-7 in the second quarter.

Burton went into the locker room at halftime with a 25-11 lead.

McCallum closed the gap by winning the third quarter 11-6. However, the Lady Panthers still led after the third quarter 31-22. The Lady Knights also won the fourth quarter 11-10, but it was not enough to overcome the early deficit.

Leilah Ellis (Burton ISD)

Mya Rodriguez led Burton with 11 points. Leilah Ellis had 10 points and 10 rebounds. In addition to that, the Lady Panthers got nine points from Val Hernandez and eight points from Harper Hodde.

In the second game, Burton defeated Rockdale 51-30. The Lady Tigers took the first quarter 11-9.

However, the Lady Panthers took the lead by winning the second quarter 16-10. That gave them a 25-21 lead at halftime.

Burton dominated the second half outscoring Rockdale 12-6 in the third quarter and 14-3 in the fourth quarter to get the win.

Harper Hodde led the Lady Panthers with 21 points. Leilah Ellis added 10 points.

The Caldwell Tournament continues today (Friday) with Burton playing Lexington at 11:30am, and Caldwell at 3:15pm.
