TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO GUN AND DRUG ARREST IN GRIMES COUNTY

A traffic stop in Grimes County led to a suspect being arrested on gun and drug charges.

Around 2pm on Tuesday, the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit pulled over a black SUV on Highway 6 near Spur 515 in Navasota.

The driver, who was identified as Hunter Dean Burkhalter, had an active felony warrant for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 2, greater than Four Grams, but less than 400 Grams.

During contact with Burkhalter, the odor of marijuana was detected and a probable cause search was conducted.

Deputies recovered 160 grams of THC, just over 23 grams of marijuana, $4,500 in currency, a digital scale, a loaded Glock 19 9-millimeter handgun, and multiple boxes of ammunition.

Burkhalter was arrested and taken to the Grimes County Jail in Anderson.

He was charged with Possession of Marijuana greater than 4oz., but less than 5 pounds, Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance greater than 4 grams, but less than 400 grams, Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon, and his warrant.
