AUSTIN COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE WARNING OF A PAVING SCAM
The Austin County Sheriff’s Office wants to make the community aware of the latest scam to hit the area.
The Sheriff’s Office has received reports of subjects operating a “paving scam.”
In a post on their Facebook page, the Sheriff’s Office explained that, in most cases, the scammers will arrive at your home and make an unsolicited offer to pave your driveway.
They claim they have left-over material from a nearby job and they can do the job for a lower price.
The scammers will typically ask for cash up front and in many instances demand more cash while threatening to leave the job unfinished.
If allowed to complete the job, the scammers often use a thin watered down asphalt mix that will crumble once the job is finished.
The Austin County Sheriff’s Office has an active investigation into the paving scammers.
Everyone is asked to please report any suspicious behavior, or encounters with the scammers to local law enforcement.
