BLINN WOMEN’S BASKETBALL SUFFERS 65-60 ROAD LOSS TO MCLENNAN
Story by Joe Alberico, Blinn College Sports Information
For the second time this season, the Blinn College women’s basketball team hung tough with No. 8 McLennan Community College.
Unfortunately, the Buccaneers were once again unable to pull out a victory in the end.
Blinn was within striking distance from start to finish before falling 65-60 to the Highlassies on Thursday in Waco, Texas.
The outcome was disappointing for a Bucs team that came within fingertips of a season-opening upset of McLennan on Nov. 5. The Highlassies held on for a 67-63 victory in Brenham, Texas.
“Once again, we played the eighth-ranked team in the country extremely tough, and this time it was on the road,” Bucs head coach Jeff Jenkins said. “We will eventually stop turning the ball over in crucial moments; we’ll make open shots; and we will learn how to win.”
Blinn dropped to 8-6 on the year.
McLennan led just 17-16 after the first quarter before Blinn forced a 32-all tie by halftime.
In the second half, the Highlassies inched ahead 51-50 at the end of the third quarter.
Sophomore guard Taylor Spencer led the Bucs with 13 points, followed by a 12-point showing for freshman guard Mariah Davis.
Blinn’s final matchup before the holiday break will see the Bucs travel to Temple College for a showdown at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Temple, Texas.
