CUBETTE SOFTBALL GETS WALK-OFF WIN OVER GIDDINGS 6-5
The Brenham Cubette Softball Team defeated the Giddings Lady Buffaloes 6-5 last (Tuesday) night at Alumni Field.
Brenham got on the board right away in the bottom of the first inning. McKenzie Tiemann drew a walk. Harper Castillo bunted her over to second base, and Tiemann took third on a fielder's choice. Then, Kylie Baker singled her home to make it 1-0 Cubettes.
Giddings put up two runs in the top of the third inning to take a 2-1 lead.
The Cubettes came back with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Sandra Prieto and Harper Castillo reached on singles. Laityn Davis folllowed that up with an RBI double that scored Payson Gurka with the tying run. Gurka had come into the game as a pinch runner for Prieto. Kylie Baker added a sacrifice fly that scored Castillo and give Brenham a 3-2 advantage.
The Cubettes expanded their the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jaycee Hegar led it off with a single. Aldyn Jaks sacrificed her to second base, and Ali Tieman walked. McKenna Marsters reached on an error that allowed Hegar to score. Prieto reached on a bunt single, which allowed Tiemann to score from third and make it 5-2,
The Lady Buffaloes tied the game at 5-5 by scoring two runs in the fifth inning, and one in the sixth inning.
In the bottom of the 7th, Castillo walked, and then Davis hit a walk-off RBI double to bring her home with the game winning run.
Baker got the win in relief after throwing 1 2/3 scoreless innings and striking out four.
