15TH ANNUAL TEXAS RANGER DAY MARCH 21 IN BURTON
The 15th annual celebration of the legacy of the Texas Rangers will take place next weekend in Burton.
Texas Ranger Day, hosted by the Burton Heritage Society, is set for Saturday, March 21st in downtown Burton.
Activities begin at noon with a flag-raising ceremony, demonstrations by the Legends of the Texas Rangers, and the Annie Maud Avis Memorial Chili, Beans and Salsa Cook-off.
Throughout the afternoon, there will be displays of Ranger camp life from the 1880s and folk-life demonstrations. New this year, the Celtaire String Band will perform 1800s music and provide family fun.
Other activities will include the Lil Mr. and Miss Ranger Contest, mule-driven buggy rides, tours of the Burton Railroad Depot and Burton Cotton Warehouse, music from Kountry Chick DJ, a bake sale, and a drawing at 4 p.m. for a classic gun.
Admission to Texas Ranger Day is free. Meal tickets for the chili and beans are $15 for adults, $10 for children 6-10.
Proceeds will benefit the Burton Heritage Society and its work to preserve Burton history, including its restoration and maintenance of the Burton Railroad Depot and the Mt. Zion Historical Chapel.
