BURTON BASEBALL DEFEATS BRAZOS WALLIS IN PLAYOFF WARMUP GAME
After the rains earlier in the week washed out their scheduled games against Round Top-Carmine, the Burton Panther Baseball Team were able to complete a playoff warm up game against the Brazos Wallis Cougars. The Panthers came out on top with a 5-1 victory on Friday night.
Burton won the District 26-2A Title, while Brazos finished second in District 24-3A.
The Cougars scored the first run of the game in the top of the second inning. After that it was all Panthers the rest of the way.
In the bottom of the third inning, Archer Fuller reached on a single, and Coy Gurka bunted him over to second base. Tyler Witt followed with a two-run homer to put Burton on the board with a 2-1 lead. Two batters later, Braydon Martin hit a solo blast to increase the Panther lead to 3-1.
Burton added two more runs in the fifth inning. Gurka drew a walk, and Logun Tosta reached on a fieder's choice. Martin drove them both home with a two-run double to make it 5-1.
Eli Jaeger allowed one run over the first three innings to get the win. Easton Witt and Tyler Witt each worked two scoreless innings each in relief.
