FRIENDS OF MAIFEST PICNIC WELCOMES IN 136TH YEAR OF FESTIVAL

  

The 136th edition of the Brenham Maifest is officially underway.

The Friends of Maifest Kick-off Picnic at Fireman’s Park on Wednesday treated guests to German food and refreshments, a children’s Maipole dance, and a ribbon cutting to mark the opening of the festival.  The picnic is held each year to honor Maifest sponsors and volunteers.

Four Washington County seniors were presented with $1,000 scholarships by the Brenham Maifest Association.  They are Cadeyn Manley, Grasyn Hinze, John Rodriquez and Raelynn Traill.

Today (Thursday) is the first day of the carnival at the Maifestival grounds, opening at 5 p.m.  It will also open tomorrow (Friday) at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m.

The senior coronation will take place tomorrow at 7 p.m.  The junior coronation will be on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

The Junior Royalty of Kate Elizabeth Flisowski and Travis Michael Hopkins will reign over the court of “Safari: A Journey into the Wild!”  The Senior Royalty of Stephanie Christina Donnell and Jadon Thomas Shipley will reign over the court of “Elegance in the Elements”.

The Maifest parade will ride through downtown Brenham on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.  KWHI will broadcast the parade live starting at 10:05 a.m. and will livestream it on Facebook.  The broadcast is sponsored by Tres Chic Boutique.

After the parade, the festival grounds will open for music, dancing, beer tasting and games. 

Entertainment for this weekend will host The Czechaholics and the Brown Sugar Band tomorrow.  Saturday will feature Das Ist Lustig, Alli and The Polka Dots, Isaak Klaus and the Lederhosen Junkies, and 90 Proof Country.
