PNG RALLIES LATE TO BEAT CUBS 5-4 AND SEND THE SERIES TO GAME 3

The Brenham Cubs Baseball Team came within one out of getting the sweep over Port Neches-Groves, but the Indians had other ideas as they tied it up in the bottom of the 7th inning, and then won it 5-4 in ten innings.

PNG scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning. Mason West hit a double to left, and he later came around to score on a fielding error by Brenham to make it 1-0.

The Cubs got on the scoreboard in the third inning. Caleb Maurer led it off with a single, and Ethan Aschenbeck walked. Two batters after that, Drake Bentke slugged a three-run opposite-field homer to give Brenham a 3-1 lead.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Cubs would strike again. Brayden Steele hit a one-out double to left. Hudson Hartstack followed with a double of his own that scored Steele, and gave Brenham a 4-1 lead.

PNG scored their second run in the bottom of the sixth inning. With the bases loaded, Brenham pitcher Dawson Keim was called for a balk, which allowed West to score his second run of the game, and make it 4-2 Cubs.

In the bottom of the 7th inning, the Indians had two on and two out. Parker Ross came up, and hit a two-run double to tie the game at 4-4.

For the second straight night, the game ended up going into extra innings. In the bottom of the 10th, Logan Escabado came through a single that scored Casen Burnham with the game winning run, which made it 5-4 PNG.

Dawson Keim got the start, and went 7 2/3 innings before reaching his pitch count. Sterling Scheffer came on in relief, and ended up getting tagged with a loss.

The series is now tied at 1-1. Game 3 is scheduled for this (Saturday) afternoon at Crosby High School. The start time has been pushed back to 3pm. KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 2:30pm on 1280AM, 101.7FM, and KWHI.com.
