PANTHER BASEBALL POUNDS PORT ARANSAS 15-0 TO TAKE REGION SEMIS
After the second game on Thursday night left a bad taste in their mouths, the Burton Panther Baseball Team bounced back this (Saturday) afternoon to beat the Port Aransas Marlins 15-0. With the win, Burton takes the Region Semifinal Series 2-1, and now moves on to the Region IV Championship against Shiner next week.
The Panthers got it going in the top of the first inning. Burton had three consecutive singles from Tyler Witt, Logun Tosta, and Braydon Martin. Rueben Rodriguez brought home Witt with the first run on an RBI groundout to second base. Ryder Biggs brought home Tosta with the second run on a sacrifice fly to give Burton an early 2-0 lead.
The Panthers would score twice again in the top of third inning. Tosta led it off with a double. Martin followed with a single to left, that was misplayed by the outfielder, and allowed Tosta to come all the way around and score. Later in the inning, Jaeger singled home Coy Gurka, who came into the game as a courtesy runner for Martin. That made it a 4-0 Burton lead.
The big inning for the Panthers came in the top of the fifth, where they sent 15 batters to the plate, and 11 of them scored. The inning started with three consecutive singles by Martin, Rodriguez, and Biggs to load the bases. Gurka, who was running again for Martin, scored on a wild pitch, and Jaeger singled home Rodriguez to make it 6-0.
Archer Fuller was hit by a pitch to re-load the bases. Matthew Roemer drew a bases loaded walk to score Biggs. Isaac Matthies followed with a two-run single to score Jaeger and Fuller to make it a 9-0 game.
Tyler Witt walked, and Tosta doubled to score Matthies. Martin singled home Witt. Rodriguez picked up his second groundout RBI of the game, which scored Tosta. That made it 12-0, Burton.
Biggs smacked a base hit to bring home Gurka, who was running again for Martin. Then, Biggs scored on an RBI single by Jaeger. That brought up Hank Majewski, who hammered a single to left that scored Jaeger and increased the lead to 15-0.
It was an extra special day for Majewski, who wanted to see his father, Dustin Majewski, throw out the first pitch at the Texas-Missouri game in Austin, but elected to stay and be there for his team.
Freshman right-hander Easton Witt got the start, and he was dominant on the mound. Easton, who is the younger brother of Tyler Witt, pitched five shutout innings, and he only allowed three base runners for Port Aransas in the game.
With the victory, Burton improves to 26-4 on the season. Information on the series with Shiner will be posted when it becomes available.
