BRENHAM PD ARRESTS BARRICADED SUBJECT ON AGGRAVATED KIDNAPPING, ASSAULT CHARGES; ANOTHER ARREST FOR POSSESSION OF CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE
A Brenham man faces aggravated kidnapping and assault charges following a large law enforcement response on Tuesday to a barricaded subject.
Shortly after 5 a.m., Brenham police officers responded to a weapon-involved disturbance in the 1000 block of Haynes Street. Police say their on-scene investigation revealed that a subject, identified as 40-year-old Bruce Ray, had allegedly threatened a known victim with a firearm, causing the victim to believe they were going to be killed or receive serious bodily injury. According to police, Ray barricaded himself inside a home.
Members of the Brenham Police Criminal Investigations Division, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Response Team and DPS made location. Several callouts were made through the PA system to get Ray to come out peacefully, but police say Ray refused to come outside. The Emergency Response Team deployed a distraction device which was successful in getting Ray to come outside willingly.
Without further incident, Ray was placed under arrest for Aggravated Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. He was transported to the Washington County Jail.
Brenham police reported a separate arrest shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday. K9 Sergeant Jimmy Ha initiated a traffic stop near the 900 block of Highway 290 West. During the investigation, K9 Maki was deployed and alerted to the odor of narcotics. The driver, 47-year-old Joanna Perez of Houston, was taken into custody for Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon and Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1, 4-200 Grams.
