FAYETTE COUNTY SHERIFF ANNOUNCES ARREST IN MURDER CASE
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office has announced that an arrest has been made in the fatal shooting that occurred at the “Best Thang Smoking” trail ride back on April 26th.
According to Sheriff Keith Korenek, after a lengthy investigation, and interviews of witnesses, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Investigators and the Texas Rangers were able to obtain information and evidence which led to identifying the suspect and obtaining a warrant.
19-year-old Robert Earl Crawford III of Somerville has been charged with Murder and Aggravated Assault Mass Shooting. He has also been indicted by a Fayette County Grand Jury.
Lieutenant David Beyer said in a press release that Crawford is currently being held in custody at a federal corrections unit stemming from an arrest on an unrelated charge.
The shooting occurred at the R.C. Pavillion, an event venue on private property, located on Munke Road near Cozy Corner.
Beyer told the Fayette County Record that the deputies’ arrival was hampered by a large crowd trying to leave the scene.
The victim, 24-year-old Alzavier Hall of Snook, was located and transported to the Smithville Hospital, where he later died.
Beyer said that the shooting occurred on the same weekend as the MS-150 Bike Ride, which had already taxed the resources for the Sheriff’s Office and the EMS to the max.
