BURTON FINISHES FOURTH IN THE LONE STAR CUP STANDINGS
The University Interscholastic League released the final Top 25 standings for the Lone Star Cup, and based on their performance, the Burton Panthers and Lady Panthers finished fourth overall in Class 2A.
The UIL Lone Star Cup is awarded annually to six high schools, one in each of the classifications, based on their team performance in district and state championships.
The winning schools in each classification will receive the UIL Lone Star Cup trophy, and a $1,000 scholarship.
It is intended to honor the best overall athletic and academic programs in Texas.
In the class 2A rankings, Shiner finished first with 77 points. Gruver and Mason finished second with 66 points each. Burton was fourth with 56 points.
From the same district, Iola finished 12th overall in Class 2A with 48 points.
According to the UIL website, the standings include; Cross Country, Marching Band, Military Marching Band, Volleyball, Robotics BST, Football, Congress, Spirit, Mariachi, Film, Basketball, Robotics FIRST, Academics, On-Act Play, Theatrical Design, Track & Field, Golf, Tennis, Softball, and Baseball.
Other area schools making the Lone Star Cup standings in their classifications include:
Class 5A
A&M Consolidated - tied for 11th place
Lake Creek - tied for 16th place
College Station - 21st place
Class 3A
Columbus - 10th place
Class 1A
Fayetteville - 5th Place
