LONGTIME FORMER LOCAL DOCTOR JAMES HRACHOVY PASSES AWAY
A long time former local doctor has passed away. Dr. James Joseph Hrachovy died on June 30 at the age of 85.
Dr. Hrachovy was born in Sealy on December 2, 1940. He graduated from Bellville High School in 1957 as the school valedictorian at the age of 16 years old.
Hrachovy later graduated from Texas A&M in 1961, and the UT-Medical Branch in 1965. Then, he went on to serve his country as a Major in the U.S. Army, where he spent a year of service in a demilitarized zone in Vietnam.
Dr. Hrachovy and his wife, Janie, settled in Brenham in 1969, where he became a family practitioner at the Brenham Clinic. During his time in Brenham, he was the public health officer, served on the hospital board, and was the team doctor for Blinn Buccaneer Football.
Hrachovy also held faculty positions at the Texas Tech University School of Medicine, the UT-Medical Branch in Beaumont, and the Texas A&M Medical School in College Station.
He later retired to Columbus in the late 1990’s, but still saw patients part time at the Columbus Clinic.
Dr. Hrachovy is survived by his brother Rick, four daughters, four grandchildren, and their respective spouses.
Visitation is going to be Friday, July 10, from 4-6:30pm at Brenham Memorial Chapel. That will be followed by a rosary.
The funeral service will be next Saturday, July 11, at the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Frelsburg. They will have visitation at 8:30am, a rosary at 9:30am, and the funeral mass at 10am.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Frelsburg, Hospice Brazos Valley in Brenham, or the charity of your choice.
