WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO ACT ON EXPO REPAIRS & DEMO WORK, EXPO PARK DESIGNATION

Two items for the Washington County Expo will be taken up by county commissioners on Tuesday.

The court will potentially authorize Collier Construction as the construction manager at risk to advertise and solicit bids for repairs and maintenance at the Expo.  The project will include electrical repairs, plumbing repairs, life safety repairs at the Commercial Exhibits building, and the demolition and removal of the JLA building and related site and utility work.

Proposals from all vendors, suppliers and subcontractors will be due to Collier Construction by Thursday, August 6th.

The other Expo-related business will be the approval of an order creating and designating the Expo as the Washington County Expo Park.  The proposed order states that the creation and designation of a county park at the Expo “strengthens the community well-being through people’s connection to nature and one another, ensuring everyone has access to the benefits and joys of the outdoors.”

The designation is connected to the county’s consideration of a proposed project to build a covered rodeo arena at the Expo, which would be funded by either the issuance of certificates of obligation or the calling of a bond election.

In other action, commissioners will look to purchase two ambulance modules in the amount of $595,400 through a Houston-Galveston Area Council contract.  They will also vote on a request from the Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department for county funding assistance in the amount of $32,500 to provide required grant-matching funds for fire protection equipment.  That includes $30,000 toward the purchase of a new 4,000-gallon water tender, $1,250 toward firefighter personal protective equipment, and another $1,250 toward fire and rescue equipment for existing vehicles and the new tender.

Also on Tuesday, commissioners will:

  • Issue a proclamation honoring and recognizing Prairie View A&M University on its 150th anniversary.
  • Hear a presentation from Washington County Chief Appraiser Dyann White regarding the calculation and development of county property tax rates and property tax exemptions available to eligible property owners.
  • Receive a six-month economic development update from Brenham | Washington County Economic & Community Development Director Teresa Rosales.
  • Potentially approve ancillary insurance amounts for the October 1st renewal for the 2026-27 plan year.
  • Act upon the placement of Creekview Trail (0.28 miles), Windmill Ridge (0.33 miles), Millwood Trail (0.29 miles) and Prairie Blossom Way (0.18 miles), located in the Windmill Ridge subdivision in Precinct 1, into the one-year maintenance period and reducing the bond to 50 percent.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.
