BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO VIEW BIDS FOR WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT REPAIR

  

The Brenham City Council will meet tomorrow (Thursday) to consider accepting a bid for the repair of the city’s wastewater treatment plant.

Two contractors submitted bids for the repair of the plant, which was damaged in the flooding of May 2016. City staff are planning to accept the bid of Solid Bridge Construction LLC of Huntsville, for a total of $1,487,910.

The project was submitted to FEMA as part of the damage inventory, and is considered an eligible project. The project is funded at a 75/25 cost share, with 75-percent of funds being reimbursed by FEMA.

The council will also hold public hearing and possibly act on rezoning 51 acres of land west of the intersections of South Market Street, Cantey Street, and Highway 290 East. Brenham Market Square, LP is planning to develop the property for residential and commercial uses.

The Planning and Zoning Commission recommends approving rezoning of the district for Commercial Research and Technology use.

City Manager James Fisher said that the rezoning request was passed unanimously at last week’s Planning and Zoning Commission, despite several opposing comments coming before and during the meeting.

The city will also look at an agreement with Strand Associates, for engineering and utility services related to the Baker Katz development project. The project will extend sewer services to several tracts of land near the intersection of Chappell Hill Street and the Highway 290 South frontage road.  Strand Associates would be responsible for engineering designs and administration services.

The council will then meet in executive session, to speak with the city attorney regarding Brenham Police Department matters, personnel, and associated issues. Fisher said he does not expect the council to take any action after executive session.

Also in session, the council will:

• Hold public hearing and possibly act on amending ordinance to redefine and allow accessory dwelling units.
• Discuss changes to the city’s human resources policy manual and animal and fowl ordinance.
• Consider bids received for the first phase of improvements at Henderson Park.
• View a resolution authorizing acceptance of infrastructure improvements in the Vintage Farms subdivision.
• Act on a memo of understanding between the city and Simon Theater, for the management of the Barnhill Center at the Simon Theater.
• View a resolution authorizing the city’s participation in the U.S. Department of Justice and Department of the Treasury asset forfeiture and equitable sharing programs.
• Act on accepting the 2018 audit of the Washington County Appraisal District by Seidel, Schroeder and Company.
• Consider abandonment of property of a 12-foot wide alley bounded by West First Street and Brenham Wholesale Grocery Co.
• Consider purchase of a trackhoe for the sanitation department.

The city council will meet Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m., at City Hall.
