COVID-19 CASES IN COMMUNITY, AT BRENHAM NURSING AND REHAB ADDRESSED IN VIDEO UPDATE
Washington County’s health authority said the figurative “well” of community spread COVID-19 cases in the county is starting to dry up.

In a video update to the community released this (Thursday) morning, Dr. William Loesch said since Monday, the county has only had one new case that is not connected to the Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (BNRC).
Of the county’s 146 positive cases, 101 cases—about 75 percent—are from within the BNRC, including residents and staff. Dr. Loesch said approximately 30 staff members have been affected. Of the 15 COVID-19 patients that have died, 13 were from the facility. There are 19 reported COVID-19 recoveries.
Dr. Loesch in his update said, with assistance from State Senator Lois Kolkhorst, the facility has received a lot of help, and the situation there looks to be headed in the right direction.
Dr. Loesch did admit, however, that the next few weeks for the facility will be challenging.
Looking at the situation as it pertains to the community, Dr. Loesch said people can expect to see businesses start reopening with limited capacity, in accordance with Governor Greg Abbott’s executive order Thursday. He said the community needs to stay smart with this virus and take all precautions necessary.
Another video update will be released next week, featuring Dr. Loesch, County Judge John Durrenberger, and Brenham Mayor Milton Tate.
The Washington County Joint Information Center is now logging two separate lists of COVID-19 in the county. One list contains an overview of all the cases in the county, while the other is a breakdown of cases specifically related to the Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The new list shows, among other things, the amount of cases in residents versus employees. The numbers reported are still related only to county residents.
