KAREN BUCK SEEKING ELECTION AS BURTON MAYOR
An ordained minister is looking to become the next mayor of Burton.
Karen Buck will face former mayor David Zajicek in the May 6th election. Buck has served as a minister for over 25 years, many of them as an intentional interim pastor for churches in Washington, Fayette, Waller and Harris counties.
Buck says her experience in providing steady guidance to congregations in need translates well to her goal of giving the city a stable leadership presence.
Following her graduation from Brenham High School and Texas A&M University, Buck studied at Eden Theological Seminary in Missouri.
Buck says she is currently taking a break from pastoral work, which would allow her to be present in the city full-time to be of support to city staff and residents. She prioritizes ensuring Burton is ready for growth, so enhancing city services and infrastructure, improving the availability of affordable housing, and maintaining a strong relationship with Burton ISD as it expands are very important.
Buck says Burton is a rich town full of history, and she wants to use that history to shape its future and where it can go. As the city crafts a vision to move forward, she says unity will be a key piece.
In addition to the mayor’s seat, there will be a contested race between incumbent Jeff Eckhardt and Peter Horn for council position #3.
Early voting for the spring election begins April 24th and ends May 2nd.
