AREA UNEMPLOYMENT RATES DOWN IN MARCH

  

Unemployment rates dipped around the region during the month of March.

Washington County’s unemployment rate dropped to 4.3 percent in March from 4.7 percent the month prior, according to the Texas Workforce Commission.

The number of unemployed residents in the county fell from 732 in February to 666 last month.

Meanwhile, employment numbers rose from 14,700 in February to 14,849 in March.  The total civilian labor force also grew from 15,432 in February to 15,515 a month ago. 

In March 2022, the county’s unemployment rate was 3.8 percent, with 581 people jobless.

The state’s adjusted unemployment rate held steady at 4 percent from February to March.    

The unemployment rates of area counties also declined:

• Austin County – 3.9 percent, down from 4.5 percent in February.
• Brazos County – 3.2 percent, down from 3.7 percent.
• Burleson County – 3.7 percent, down from 4.2 percent.
• Fayette County – 3.6 percent, down from 4 percent in February.
• Grimes County – 4.8 percent, down from 4.9 percent.
• Lee County – 3.8 percent, down from 4.1 percent.
• Waller County – 4.5 percent, down from 5.3 percent.
