Dan Reilly, Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the National Weather Service – Houston/Galveston, reported that the area around FM 1948 in the western portion of the county took the brunt of storm damage, with scattered damage elsewhere.  The storm tracked east-southeast from Burleson County.

Based on information obtained from storm spotter Bob Pack, Reilly estimated that the area where the storm was most intense saw straight-line winds of up to 70 mph.  Brenham measured wind gusts up to 38 mph.

According to Reilly, the storm caused snapping and uprooting of trees, with some falling onto structures.  It also brought reported hail of approximately one inch in diameter in Washington County and golf ball-sized hail in Burleson County.

Readings from the Brenham Water Plant indicate the city received 0.26 inches of rain Saturday night.  Outside of the city, Reilly said around an inch came down.

The National Weather Service is still gathering information from Saturday night’s severe weather and asks anyone with details or photos to contact them at www.weather.gov
