MINOR GIRLS BEAT SMITHVILLE 11-1 TO WIN SECTION 1 TOURNAMENT

The Washington County Minor Girls defeated Smithville 11-1 on Friday night to win the Section 1 Tournament.

Washington County got on the board with four runs in the first inning that were scored without getting a hit. Kori Boeker and Lilly Collier walked, and Charley Eberly was hit with a pitch to load the bases. Audrey Dismukes was then hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, which brought Boeker home with the first run of the game. Olivia Fuchs drew a bases loaded walk that scored Collier. Tori Jankowski and Molly Felder were both hit by pitches, which scored Eberly and Dismukes to make it 4-0.

In the third inning, Dismukes was hit by a pitch for the second time. Fuchs singled. Kinsley Wallace followed with a two-run double that scored Dismukes and Fuchs. Jankowski singled home Wallace, and later scored on an error to make it 8-0.

Smithville got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth by scoring a run on an error to make it 8-1.

Washington County would seal the deal in the bottom of the fourth. Brylie Mund walked, stole second, and then scored on an RBI single by Boeker. Collier reached on an error that allowed Boeker to score. Dismukes then singled home Collier to make it 11-1, and enforce the 10-run mercy rule.

Boeker and Felder combined in the circle to throw a no-hitter. Boeker went three scoreless innings allowing four walks and striking out eight. Felder pitched the final inning allow one unearned run, while walking two, and striking out two.

Washington County now moves on to the State Tournament at Zlotnik Park in El Campo. It starts on Friday July 14 at 6pm. KWHI will have live coverage.
