WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS APPROVE PURCHASE OF NEW HANDGUNS FOR SHERIFF’S OFFICE
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office will soon receive new handguns.
County commissioners today (Tuesday) approved the purchase of SIG Sauer 9mm handguns, using money from the sheriff’s office donation account.
Chief Deputy Jay Petrash said the sheriff’s office is switching calibers from .357 to 9mm because of troubles in getting ammunition in a timely manner.
Petrash explained that hundreds of rounds of ammunition are used during instructor school, Special Response Team (SRT) training and officer certification.
The sheriff’s office will spend around $47,000 for the handguns and will receive $13,000 for trading in its old pistols.
Petrash said it should take 90-180 days for the new pistols to be made. They will come with red dot sights for increased accuracy.
Commissioner Kirk Hanath thanked Petrash and the sheriff’s office for utilizing donation funds to make the purchase, saving taxpayers money.
Also at today’s meeting, commissioners:
- Accepted the county’s 2022 audit report conducted by the outside auditing firm of Rutledge Crain & Company, PC.
- Approved the purchase of a Black Widow Arena Drag to replace the old unit at the Washington County Expo. The purchase is for $8,350.
- Approved the purchase of a John Deere tractor and shredder package from Shoppa’s for the Washington County Expo, using a Sourcewell purchasing contract. The full package is for $63,183.
