CITY OF BRENHAM ASKS PRIVATE PROPERTY OWNERS TO CUT BACK LOW-HANGING TREE LIMBS
The City of Brenham is asking residents and businesses to take care of low-hanging tree limbs that extend from private property into city streets.
The city says it has observed a growing challenge with the limbs, affecting the flow of traffic and the overall safety of roads. It says tree limbs that grow out into streets and right-of-ways have become an obstacle for buses, refuse trucks, emergency vehicles and everyday commuters.
According to the city, many of the overgrown limbs originate from private trees on residential and commercial properties.
Officials ask property owners to ensure limbs extending into streets are pruned up to at least 13 feet, and farther if possible. They also advise caution when working near right-of-ways or electric lines.
The city should have to trim my trees that hang over city property. My road completely sucks. They have put patches on top of patches and it still sucks. I live on a cul de sac and they still cannot get it right. I have to drive less than 10mph on my road to avoid my vehicles being damaged. On a cul de sac! Now on top of the ridiculous amount of taxes I pay, I should pay thousands to get my trees trimmed. We are not a huge city like Houston or Austin. You cannot keep spending money like it is open ended. Great parks do not bring in more citizens with great money. I cannot wait until my child has graduated from Blinn. I am out.
I love how you say the city should have to pay to trim your trees that hang over city (public) property, then say the city cannot keep spending money like it is open ended. haha! So which is it? Spend money or don’t??
If your trees are hanging into your neighbors yard you would be responsible for keeping them trimmed to stay within your property. Same here. Why should the city have to use tax dollars to maintain YOUR property?! Also, great parks DO bring in citizens but even better than that – they bring in thousands of visitors every year to our community where they spend millions of dollars and the sales tax they pay comes right back to us. I’m proud of our parks system! It’s the best around!! And the parks department is VERY judicious about using tax payer dollars on parks. They work very hard to use outside sources (like those millions in sales tax from visitors and grants) for funding first before delving into the city tax revenue.
The low hanging limb on my tree is a seasonal issue. Hangs low only when there are nuts on the limb. Does the nut issue allow a seasonal low hanging limb? Pecans are expensive and I would like to save my nuts.
the city should have to trim these trees not the property owners the county keeps the road side trees trimmed why can’t the city ? and they want it 13 feet or more high the average property owner doesn’t have the equipment to do this . You have to cut the limbs off and then haul them to the collection station where you have to pay to dump it more money out of our pockets if you are unable to do your own trimming and get a tree service to do it then it will really cost the heck out of you, high property taxes and we get nothing in return. the next thing is that they might even fine you if you don’t do it
The first thing I would say to you is that you’d better be careful what you wish for. The City can trim anybody’s trees if they’re over the road or near utilities but is liable to butcher them. They won’t care as much as you do about how it looks or whether your trees start to lean the other direction or die, so you might end up hiring an arborist anyway.
The second thing that I’d tell you is to be careful what you wish for because if you think that their taxes are high now, just wait until THEY bid out and pay for tree trimming services. If you’re right and they’re wasteful then you will pay, pay more, and maybe pay twice.
The third thing is that owning land entails doing work. Hard work. Don’t shy away from it, it’s good for you. If you own a forest, expect to do some forestry. If you don’t want to do work then you’re going to pay an arborist, an landlord, a condo association, a municipality, or maybe your lawyer and somebody else’s when the top of a truck gets struck. That’s the way it is.
Why does the city think that some of the citizens of Brenham will trim their trees when they park their vehicles on their front lawns along with the left out bbq pits? Only way to make a change is to change the city codes.
C’mon…if its not your yard, why judge how others live? We cant keep passing ordinances, laws, etc just because someone else doesnt live the way you or i or another does. That was a great thing about this country, a property owner used to be able to do whatever on their property, now others believe what happens on someone else’s property is their business too…universal law says that for every one you judge, there is one judging you…people are doing what they can these days…i will add, that is my street in the picture! The hone on the left nearest was recently purchased and they literally just moved in…im in the light blue house on the right…im not scared to say it lol
Dear Mr. T , it’s called pride in ownership. If you live like trash, then you probably are. And the outside of your house is probably a good representation of what the inside looks light. If you are too lazy to keep your surroundings up, then move to the country, a few miles off the road where you don’t affect your neighbors values. That is why we have deed restrictions and enforcement to make sure that the lazy ones do something.
bbq pits cars on the lawn! What you talking about willis!
