JUVENILE IN CUSTODY AFTER SHOOTING IN CLAY
A 16-year-old boy from Snook is in juvenile custody after a shooting in late September in the Clay community that sent one person to the hospital.
According to Burleson County Chief Deputy Bill Rios, the boy was apprehended without incident last Thursday, October 12th at Snook Secondary School. He is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Deadly Conduct in connection to the September 29th shooting.
That night around 7:15 p.m., sheriff’s deputies responded to a large disturbance on the roadside of FM 50, near the old Clay store site. Rios said a “disagreement between parties” led to weapons drawn and multiple gunshots fired.
One person, 22-year-old Alzavier Hall, was hit in the leg and taken to a hospital in Bryan, where he was treated and released that night.
Rios said two men fled the scene in a white van traveling north on FM 50, and authorities continue to search for them.
A crowd of about 60 people was present when law enforcement first arrived. Several were still arguing, and some had to be restrained by deputies.
According to Rios, investigators recovered handgun and rifle shell casings on both sides of the road and found multiple vehicles damaged by bullets. Officers remained at the scene for several hours to obtain evidence and question witnesses.
Assisting the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office was the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the Caldwell and Somerville Police Departments, and DPS.
Rios said investigation is ongoing, and more arrests are expected.
