TWO KILLED IN CRASH ON HIGHWAY 290 WEST OF BRENHAM

Authorities are investigating the second fatal crash in as many days on Highway 290 west of Brenham.

The accident was reported around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, near where the highway meets Sunset Road.

According to DPS Sergeant Justin Ruiz, a 2008 GMC Sierra was entering Highway 290 from a private drive when it hydroplaned and was struck by an eastbound 2007 Dodge Ram.

The driver of the GMC, 26-year-old Jose Macareno-Vasquez of Kyle, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The passenger, 33-year-old Margarito Gonzalez-Rodriguez of Austin, was transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Brenham, where he was later pronounced dead by hospital staff.

The driver and two passengers of the Dodge were also transported to Baylor Scott & White in Brenham.  Their injuries are believed to be minor.

Tuesday’s fatal accident follows one that occurred Monday afternoon at nearly the same location on Highway 290.  Two people were killed, and a third was hospitalized with minor injuries.

Investigation into both crashes continues.
