Those who oversee the Bellville ISD have received another statewide honor. Back in May, Superintendent Dr. Nicole Poenitzsch was named as the Region 6 Superintendent of the Year.

Now, the entire Bellville School Board has been named as the Region 6 School Board of the Year. The Board consists of President Sarah Buenger, Vice President Grant Lischka, Secretary Kenneth Stein, and other members Jared Lischka, Jim Batson, Regina Gillum, and Heather Novicke. They also have student member Jaylen Tesch.

According to Region 6, it is a rare feat for both the Superintendent and the School Board from the same district to win in the same year.

Bellville is among 14 Texas school districts that have been selected as regional nominees for the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) Outstanding School Board of the Year Award.

The regional education service centers review the nominations and select up to two school boards for consideration. One board will be from a small district with 1,000 students or less, while other will be from a larger district with more than 1,000 students.

An awards committee meets later this month to select five nominated boards to be recognized as “Honor Boards.”

The finals will be held in San Antonio on Friday, September 27, as part of the 2024 Texas Education Convention, where one board will be named as the “Outstanding School Board of the Year.”
