BLINN MEN CRUSH HOUSTONIANS FC 13-0 FOR FIRST WIN OF THE YEAR
Story by Joe Alberico, Blinn College Sports Information
The Blinn College men's soccer team earned its first victory of the season in dominant fashion.
Freshman forward Ethan Lindo scored three goals, sophomore forwards Na'el Shalabi and Phillip Arceneaux added two apiece, and the Buccaneers overwhelmed Houstonians FC en route to a 13-0 win Thursday at Rankin Field inside Hohlt Park in Brenham, Texas.
"It's nice to get our first win, but we have to immediately focus on our next game," Blinn head coach Michael McBride said. "It's time to get ready to take on a team that has just beaten the reigning national champions."
The Bucs will go toe-to-toe with Miami Dade College at 10 a.m. on Sunday, at Hohlt Park, but garnered some much-needed momentum Thursday night.
Houstonians FC surrendered an own goal in the 9th minute, but the Blinn offense took care of business from there.
The Bucs tallied five first-half goals, including tallies from Shalabi in the 38th and 39th minutes. Shortly after the intermission, Lindo scored back-to-back-to-back goals in minutes 46, 47, and 49. Arceneaux scored in the 70th and 76th minutes.
An unassisted goal from freshman defender Gabriel Ordonez and a score from freshman midfielder Joe Coyle late in the match capped the offensive onslaught.
Freshman midfielder Cristian Estrada, freshman defender Adrian Nieto-Saul, and freshman forward Devon Arnold also scored goals for the Bucs.
Freshman midfielder Joaquin Rosales set a single-game program record with four assists, while Lindo, Shalabi, Ordonez, sophomore midfielder Mathew Williams, freshman forwards Joseph Afful, Jesus Florencio, and Fernando Arroyo, freshman midfielder Geoff Ojango, and freshman defender Alfredo Morales also picked up assists.
Blinn freshmen goalkeepers Bennett Woodworth and Connor Vela each played one half in goal and had a quiet night as the Buccaneer defense held Houstonians FC without a shot.
