Jimmie Lee Peavy Jr. (Grimes Co. Jail)

A Grimes County man that the District Attorney's Office says has a history of threatening and assaulting officers will going to prison after pleading guilty in district court.

51-year-old Jimmie Lee Peavy Jr. was charged with Harassment of a Public Servant.

His arrest stems from an incident that occurred in Navasota on November 30, 2023.

Navasota Police were dispatched to a reported disturbance at the Stripes convenience store located near the intersection of Highway 105 and Highway 6.

Officers arrived on the scene and made contact with Peavy, who was determined to be intoxicated.

Sgt. Todd Moon placed Peavy under arrest for Public Intoxication.

While under arrest, Peavy made threats against Sgt. Moon, spit on him, and then later kicked him at the Grimes County Jail during the intake process.

Peavy was charged with Retaliation, Harassment of a Public Servant, and Assault on a Public Servant.

After a jury was empaneled on Tuesday, Judge J.D. Langley heard a motion to suppress filed by the defense. After hearing the evidence and arguments from both sides, Langley ruled that Peavy’s arrest was not unlawful, and denied the motion to suppress.

Following the hearing, Peavy entered a guilty plea to the Harassment of a Public Servant charge, a third-degree felony, and was sentenced to 35 years in prison. The enhanced sentence was due to his status as a habitual offender.
