HOUSTON ASTROS VISIT WITH FANS AT BLUE BELL
Members of the Houston Astros met with fans in Brenham today (Thursday).
The Astros Caravan made a stop at Blue Bell Creameries, where supporters got to take photos with the Astros’ two World Series trophies, win team merchandise, and visit with players Shawn Dubin, Jon Singleton and Nick Hernandez, as well as television broadcaster and former Astro Geoff Blum. The players even served up some scoops of Blue Bell Ice Cream.
Blum, who serves as the color analyst on Astros telecasts next to play-by-play broadcaster Todd Kalas, says he’s no stranger to Brenham or Blue Bell.
Blum says it has been a “truly great experience” to be part of the Astros’ broadcast team and is grateful that his voice can be included in “the soundtrack of these golden years of Astros baseball.”
Hernandez, who grew up a fan of the Astros in Missouri City and was drafted by the team in 2016, says he’s familiar with Brenham by way of baseball tournaments he played in as a kid, and playing against Blinn College while he pitched at Alvin Community College. He recalls one unfortunate incident as a child where he had to miss a trip to the Blue Bell factory after getting a foul ball to the eye.
Hernandez says he is excited to get the next season underway soon and feels the chemistry between players is one of the team’s strongest assets.
Spring training for the Astros opens on February 22nd. The regular season begins at home against the New York Mets on March 27th.
KWHI will carry Astros games all season long on AM 1280, FM 101.7 and kwhi.com.
