TWO GRASS FIRES AMONG FIVE WEEKEND CALLS FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT.
The Brenham Fire Department responded to a pair of grass fire calls over the weekend.
Shortly before 1 p.m. Saturday, Brenham units were called out – with aid from the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department – to a grass fire in the 2500 block of Strangmeier Road. There, they found a small grass fire moving slowly. Personnel used a booster truck to put out the fire. Once it was out, they cleared the scene.
At 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Brenham and Berlin firefighters went out to the 2100 block of Old Mill Creek Road to find a grass fire moving at a rapid pace. Brenham units deployed a booster truck, while the Berlin department helped with putting out the fire and providing water supply. Once the two departments extinguished the fire and performed mop-up, they returned to service.
The Brenham Fire Department had three other calls this past weekend.
The first came just shy of 8:15 a.m. Saturday for a gas odor at a home in the 1700 block of Stephanie Street. Firefighters and the City of Brenham Gas Department checked the area for a leak or smell. After investigation, the fire department was released from the scene.
The department then had two fire alarm calls Saturday at Kruse Village, 1700 East Stone Street, the first at 9 a.m. and the next around 10 a.m. During both calls, BFD members met with staff, who found that the alarm came from a room. The alarm was reset both times, and the fire department advised staff to contact an alarm company.
