The Texas Board of Nursing released preliminary 2024 examination pass rates for Vocational Nursing Programs that reflected Blinn’s 100% score on the exam. These numbers include first-time test takers only and do not include repeaters. The national rate for passing in 2024 was 88.38%. The state rate was 93.14%.

“Our program is a fast-paced, intense nursing program that can be completed in under a year,” said Dr. Michelle Marburger, Director of the Vocational Nursing Program. “Our students work hard each day, and our faculty is here to support them every step of the way.”

The 10-month traditional program includes classroom, lab, and clinical training. Clinical rotations are held at hospitals and other healthcare facilities throughout the area.

The blended/online cohort allows students to complete theory coursework online and attend face-to-face clinical and laboratory training. Designed for students balancing a job and nursing studies, the program was launched in 2018 and was the first of its kind in the state.

“Dr. Marburger and her team are dedicated to providing the best education possible, and this result is just proof that they are accomplishing great things with their students,” said Michelle Trubenstein, Dean of Health Sciences. “I am excited for the faculty, graduates, and our community, knowing that Blinn College provides a wonderful pool of accomplished licensed vocational nurses to care for those in need.”

Program graduates are eligible to take the NCLEX-PN and the Nursing Jurisprudence Examination and are considered licensed vocational nurses after passing both exams.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor Statistics, the 2023 annual median pay for a vocational nurse was $59,730.

“There is a nursing shortage and so many funding opportunities available for nursing students,” Marburger said. “We would like to encourage anyone interested in the program to take the next step and register for an upcoming information session.”

Almost 98% of Blinn program graduates over the past three years have found jobs in the profession.
