DPS: CHARGES PENDING AFTER THREE KILLED, TWO INJURED IN GRIMES CO. CRASH
DPS is investigating after a head-on crash Friday night near the Grimes and Madison County line that killed three people and sent two others to the hospital.
The crash occurred after 10:45 p.m. on Highway 90 near Edgewood Lane.
According to DPS, a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 was traveling northbound on Highway 90 and attempted to pass another vehicle using the southbound lane. At that time, the pickup collided head-on with a southbound 2011 Nissan Altima and also struck a southbound 2006 Hyundai Elantra.
The driver of the Nissan, 42-year-old Cheryl Kubiak of Plantersville, as well as two passengers, 18-year-old Chassity Cowgill of Plantersville and 23-year-old Wyatt Humphrey of Navasota, were all pronounced dead at the scene. A third passenger, an 18-year-old male, was taken to St. Joseph Regional Hospital in Bryan with suspected serious injuries.
The driver of the Dodge was also believed to have been seriously injured and was taken to St. Joseph Health in Madisonville. The driver of the Hyundai was not injured.
DPS says criminal charges are pending and that their investigation is ongoing.
