BURTON MAN CHARGED IN LEAGUE CITY MURDER INVESTIGATION
A Burton man faces a murder charge in League City.
78-year-old Ted Cassell was arrested on Saturday after the League City Police Department responded around 4:45 p.m. to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the 1900 block of Cove Park Drive.
At the scene, officials located and began life-saving measures for a 72-year-old male victim, who was taken to a local hospital but died from his injuries.
Witnesses at the scene told police that the suspect vehicle, a white Ford F-150, was still on location with the driver inside. The driver, later identified as Cassell, was detained without further incident.
Police say their preliminary investigation determined that the incident followed a verbal altercation between Cassell and several residents, including the victim. Cassell was placed into custody around 9 p.m. Saturday.
The League City Police Department’s crash team, detectives and crime scene unit responded and are continuing their investigation. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the police department at 281-332-2566.
Cassell is being held on $250,000 bond.
