WASHINGTON COUNTY DOMINATE SMITHVILLE IN MINOR SOFTBALL SECTIONALS GAME 1

On Tuesday, Washington County opened Minor Softball sectional play in Elgin with a best-of-three series against Smithville—and they made an immediate statement with a dominant 8-0 shutout win in Game 1.

Washington County set the tone early, delivering on both sides of the ball. Offensively, they grabbed an early lead with a two-run second inning. Raelyn Rosenbaum scored after stealing third and taking home on a Smithville error, while Lillie Landua crossed the plate on a fielder’s choice to first base.

Smithville managed to hold Washington County scoreless for the next two innings, but the momentum shifted sharply in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs and the bases loaded, Washington County exploded for six runs, blowing the game open and stretching their lead to 8-0.

On the defensive side, the spotlight belonged to pitcher Kinsley Haferkamp, who delivered a nearly flawless performance. She carried a perfect game into the fourth inning before issuing her only walk of the night. That lone baserunner was her only blemish, as she struck out 18 of the 19 batters she faced, sealing the shutout with a strikeout to end the game.
