BURTON SCHOOL BOARD TO CONSIDER EMPLOYEE PAY PLAN, CELL PHONE POLICY

Burton ISD’s plan to compensate employees and a policy governing the usage of cell phones will be among the main points of discussion for the Burton School Board on Monday.

Trustees will consider the 2025-26 proposed pay plan, following the state legislature’s approval of new funding to be put toward payroll increases.

Later, the board will possibly adopt a policy in accordance with the state’s newly passed law, House Bill 1481, that prohibits students from using personal communication devices during the school day.

The law instructs school boards to create a policy to either disallow students from bringing their devices onto school property or designate an area to store the devices during the day.  Exceptions are allowed for student medical needs or to comply with school safety protocols.

Other business at the meeting will include staff and administrative reports, as well as an update on school bond construction.

The board will also:

  • Consider approval to delegate contractual authority to obligate the school district to the superintendent under Texas Education Code for the purchase of attendance credits for the 2025-26 school year.
  • Vote on the teacher appraisal calendar.
  • Review Texas Association of School Boards investment policy.
  • Meet in executive session to discuss personnel, the implementation of security personnel, and the district’s lawsuit against DSA, Inc., Circle H Dirt Work and Excavation, and Round Top HVAC in 21st District Court (Cause No. 38478).

The board will meet Monday at 6 p.m.  The meeting is being held in the Burton ISD Administration Office due to the floors being waxed on campus.
