SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATING AFTER OVER $5,000 IN COPPER METAL STOLEN FROM BURTON ISD CONSTRUCTION SITE
Investigation is underway after an early morning burglary at Burton ISD’s construction site, resulting in the theft of thousands of dollars’ worth of copper metal.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Holton was notified around 8:15 a.m. today (Thursday) of a burglary at the Burton ISD campus.
Upon reviewing security camera footage, the sheriff’s office says two suspects were seen entering the school property at approximately 12:45 a.m. today in a gold-colored vehicle, causing damage to an awning.
The sheriff’s office says the suspects then entered a building currently under construction and proceeded to remove approximately $5,200 in copper metal.
The case remains under investigation, and no arrests have been made at this time. No further information about the suspects was available.
Burton ISD Superintendent Vikki Curry says no students or staff members were on campus at the time, and no one was harmed. She thanks the district’s operations staff members for their vigilance and the school resource officers for their swift response and their continued efforts to keep Burton ISD safe.
