The first-ever “Big Event” in Brenham was a big success.
Hundreds of student and community volunteers came out this weekend to perform various beautification projects at Brenham ISD campuses and at Cub Stadium, from painting to cleaning to landscaping.
The “Big Event” originally started at Texas A&M University in 1982. Brenham GameChangers President Dr. Heather Thielemann said the organization’s goal this year was to start out with projects at schools before moving into the larger community in the future, and this event was a great first step.
According to Dr. Thielemann, over 280 students and around 150 community members signed up to participate in the first installment of the event.
Projects included pressure washing buildings and sidewalks, re-painting at parking lots and playgrounds, planting trees, re-graveling the high school courtyard, adding changing tables to the Cub Stadium restrooms, and making new “Welcome to the Prideland” letters at the stadium. Most of the work took place on Saturday, but some of the stadium projects were handled on Sunday to work around Saturday’s homecoming game for the Blinn Buccaneers.
Brenham ISD Superintendent Clay Gillentine said seeing so many people rallying around the school district to help it improve was incredible.
