According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded just after 2:30 p.m. Friday to a disturbance in the 3800 block of Caney Creek Road.  It was reported that two individuals had attempted to steal a vehicle that contained payroll checks totaling $20,000, and that one subject had been detained while the other fled on foot.

During investigation, deputies learned that the checks were previously picked up at a bank in Hempstead and then brought to the location in Washington County.

After interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage, the sheriff’s office placed 35-year-old Londun Kawme Mourning under arrest and transported him to the Washington County Jail.  He was charged with Burglary of a Vehicle, Criminal Trespass and Theft of Property $2,500 - $30,000.

The sheriff’s office says it is still working on identifying the second suspect, but there is no information as of yet to release.  Investigation is ongoing.
