DRIVER IN GRIMES COUNTY HIGH SPEED CHASE SENTENCED TO PRISON TERM

Mark Marsh (Grimes County Jail)

The driver that led Navasota Police on a high speed chase back in February was sentenced during the latest session of the 506th Judicial District Court.

Mark Marsh pled guilty before Judge Gary Cheney and was sentenced to ten years in prison for Evading Arrest in a Vehicle, a third-degree felony.

The incident in question took place back on February 20, Navasota Police Officer Trent Sorsby initiated a traffic stop on a red Dodge Challenger. The Challenger was traveling south on Highway 6 at 100 miles per hour in a 75 miles per hour zone.

Instead of stopping, the car sped up, and a chase ensued for 23 miles with speeds reaching up to 130 miles per hour.

The chase ultimately ended when the Challenger crashed at FM 1488 and Highway 290 in Hempstead.

Marsh and two passengers attempted to flee the scene on foot.

However, officers ultimately took him into custody. He was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and had an active warrant for a probation violation.

Marsh was indicted in May on the Evading Arrest charge, and Judge Cheney passed sentence on Wednesday.

The plea agreement was arranged by Grimes County Assistant District Attorney Meagan Ghormley.

According to the D.A.’s Office, had Marsh let the case go to trial, he could have faced an enhanced punishment due to having a previous conviction on his record.
