BIG CROWDS ON HAND FOR CHAPPELL HILL’S FINAL SCARECROW FESTIVAL

Beautiful weather brought thousands of people to Chappell Hill this past weekend for the 48th Chappell Hill Scarecrow Festival, which is expected to be the last one.

The Chappell Hill Historical Society’s annual fall festival packed town on Saturday and Sunday with two days of fun, including shopping at hundreds of vendors, live entertainment, and family-friendly games and activities.

For decades, the Scarecrow Festival has served as one of the county’s largest drivers of tourism and one of the Historical Society’s main fundraisers, helping to support programs and maintain local historic properties.

Organizers announced in the months leading up to this year’s event that future festivals beyond this one will be discontinued, citing rising costs and a reduction in participating volunteers.  However, the Historical Society said a committee would look into ideas for bringing the festival back in a different way.

Plans are still on for the Bluebonnet Festival in the spring.
