BLINN MEN’S SOCCER PLAYERS EARN ALL-REGION

Seven members of the Blinn College men’s soccer team have been recognized by Region 14 for their performances this season. 

Sophomore midfielder Sam Sebagabo and freshman defender/forward Malikai Fry have been named to the all-region first-team, while sophomore defender/midfielder Geoff Ojango, sophomore defender Alek Melo, sophomore forward Alan Kocmoud Navarro, freshman midfielder Jordan Franco, and freshman goalkeeper Samir Bristol landed on the second-team. 

All seven players helped the Buccaneers to the most successful season in program history, which saw the team finish with a 14-5 record and reach the NJCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship tournament for the first time. 

In his lone season at Blinn, Sebagabo emerged as the team’s leading scorer with 10 goals, five assists, and a team-high 25 points. He finished with five goals and three assists in region play. Sebagabo also was named to the national tournament all-tournament team. 

Fry finished his season with one goal and two assists, including one of each against region foes, while aiding a stingy Blinn defense. With Fry’s help on the back line, the Bucs allowed 1.05 goals, 8.5 shots, and 4.3 shots on goal per match. Blinn also recorded a program-best nine shutouts, including a team-record six in a row. Fry was named to the national tournament all-tournament team.

In his second season with the Bucs, Ojango finished with three assists, with two in region play. Ojango also filled a critical role on the Blinn back line. 

Kocmoud Navarro was second on the team with five goals and had four assists, including four goals and an assist in region play. He was tied for the second-most points on the team with 14. 

Melo registered three goals and a team-best eight assists, including a team-leading five assists against region opponents and each of his goals. He tied Kocmoud Navarro with 14 points. 

Franco produced three goals and four assists, with two goals and three assists in region tilts. He was fifth on the team in points. He also was a sturdy defender for the Bucs. 

Bristol came on late to make five starts in which he finished 5-0 with four shutouts, including a 4-0 mark with three shutouts against region opponents. He made 12 saves, with seven coming in region play.
