WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO CONSIDER LEASE AGREEMENT FOR 911 DISPATCH CENTER

  

Washington County Commissioners on Tuesday will take up the extension of a lease agreement with the City of Brenham for the county’s 911 dispatch center.

The county has leased the facility at 301 North Baylor Street from the city since 2014 for emergency dispatch services. 

The most recent lease extension was in 2024, and the lease is set to terminate at the end of this year.  If approved, the extended lease would begin on January 1, 2026 and end on December 31, 2027.

The county would also pay more in rent to the city, going from its current monthly rent payment of $2,500 to $3,000 in 2026 and $3,500 in 2027.

The item for the lease extension comes after the county explored the possibility of relocating the 911 department from the existing facility, with County Judge John Durrenberger saying last year that the department had outgrown the facility.

Also on Tuesday, the court will consider hiring a 911 Director for a pay rate exceeding the 6 percent allowable amount in accordance with county policy. 

Additionally, commissioners will act on a proposed change to the county’s existing agreement with Brannon Industrial Group to provide administrative services for the October 2026 scrap tire collection event. 

There will be a related item to vote on a resolution authorizing Washington County Environmental Health to submit a grant application to the Brazos Valley Council of Governments Regional Solid Waste Management Grants Program.  The application is for grant funding to conduct a local tire cleanup event for all Washington County residents. 

In other business, commissioners will:

• Act on accepting the resignation of Tom Stevens, current board chair of the Washington County Historical Commission, as of December 31, 2025, and appointing Sharlie Douglass as the commission’s board chair for the 2026-27 term.
• Consider a contract for representation of indigent defendants for County Court at Law.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.
