The Blinn College men’s basketball team saw its impressive four-game Region 14 winning streak come to an end Friday.

The Buccaneers battled Tyler Junior College until the final buzzer but came up short in a 78-69 road loss in Tyler, Texas.

Blinn (11-7, 5-5 Region 14) was originally scheduled to face the Apaches on Saturday, but inclement weather expected over the weekend pushed the contest up to Friday.

On short rest (the Bucs defeated Lee College on Wednesday), Blinn went toe-to-toe with Tyler, leading the hosts 38-32 at the half before the Apaches rallied late to jump ahead for good.

“We competed extremely hard, but the quick turnaround was tough,” Blinn head coach Scott Schumacher said. “It’s hard to win every game, and I told our guys after it was all over that they gave us a chance to win and that’s all we can ask for. We’ll keep our heads high and get ready for Coastal Bend next Wednesday.”

Sophomore forward Kenaz Ochogwu had his best game as a Buc with a season-high 18 points on 9-for-10 shooting. Freshman forward Ian Sedah added 15 points, freshman guard Desmeon Jones added 14, and sophomore forward Dashawn Ceaser chipped in 14.

Jones and Ceaser tallied six and five assists, respectively.

Blinn will host Coastal Bend at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at the Kruse Center in Brenham, Texas.
