SALES TAX REBATES DOWN IN WASHINGTON CO. FOR FEBRUARY

  

All Washington County entities reported a drop in sales and tax distributions for the month of February.

The county’s rebate of $529,041 this month was down 0.16 percent from the $529,909 received in February 2025.  So far this year, the county has collected $917,199, up 3.7 percent from this point last year, when the county had received $884,423.

The City of Brenham took in $1,032,919 in February, a reduction of 18 percent from its $1,259,798 rebate last February.  Through the first two months of the year, the city has received $1,864,926, down 9.21 percent from the $2,054,207 taken in through February 2025.

The City of Burton reported a $13,905 rebate this month, 19.38 percent under last February’s payment of $17,248.  For 2026 so far, the city has been allocated $24,645, 7.32 percent down from the $26,593 tallied up through February of last year.

Acting Comptroller Kelly Hancock announced $1.5 billion in local sales tax allocations this month, up 2.5 percent from last February and up 3.5 percent for the year to date. 

February’s distributions are based on sales made in December by businesses that report tax monthly; October, November and December sales by quarterly filers; and 2025 sales by businesses that report tax annually.
