TWO WALLER COUNTY RESIDENTS ARRESTED ON THEFT OF LIVESTOCK CHARGES

  

A multi-county investigation by Special Rangers from the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association has led to two Waller County residents being arrested.

45-year-old Janay Monique Smith of Pattison was arrested by the Waller County Sheriff’s Office, while her alleged accomplice, 59-year-old Douglas James Smith, also of Pattison, was taken into custody by the Lake Jackson Police Department with the assistance of the Waller County Sheriff’s Office.

The Smiths are accused of fraudulently purchasing more than $30,000 in livestock from eight auction markets across Central and Southeast Texas.

Both are charged with multiple counts of Theft of Livestock, a third-degree felony.

Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association Special Rangers launched an investigation after receiving reports of livestock purchased with hot checks at area auction markets.

When comparing the cases across multiple jurisdictions, the Rangers were able to identify a pattern, which they say links the suspects to the cases.

The cases remain under investigation.

The Cattle Raisers Association thanked the Waller County Sheriff’s Office and the Lake Jackson Police Department for their assistance.
