Gentleman's Club, represented by Trustee Dean Fuchs.
The proposed tax rate has been set at $0.777447 per $100 valuation. It is made up of $0.6128 for maintenance and operations (M&O) and $0.164647 for interest and sinking (I&S).
The new rate would be lower than the existing tax rate of $0.8047, consisting of $0.6250 for M&O and $0.1797 for I&S.
Burton ISD Business Manager Caitlyn Blakey-Staal said the proposed M&O rate of $0.6128 is the maximum rate allowed by the Texas Education Agency that Burton ISD can set without needing an election.
The board then approved the scheduling of a public hearing on the tax rate and proposed budget for Monday, August 31st at 5:30 p.m. in the Burton ISD Cafeteria.
Also at Monday’s meeting, Elementary Principal Melinda Fuchs and High School Principal Micah Goebel were presented a check for $3,000 from the Prairie Gentleman’s Club, an organization dedicated to supporting local education, athletics and families. The donation will go toward supplies and other necessities for students in need.
Also on Monday, trustees:
- Reviewed the staff, student, organizational, and student activity handbooks.
- Approved the 2026-27 districtwide, elementary and secondary campus improvement plans, meal prices and the student code of conduct.
- Approved an annual item designating Washington County extension agents as adjunct staff members.
