BRENHAM HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE PROMOTED TO MAJOR IN U.S. SPACE FORCE

  

A Brenham High School graduate is celebrating a military milestone. 

Eric “Sandy” Skrla, a member of the 2006 graduating class at Brenham High School, has been promoted to the rank of major in the United States Space Force.  He has served in a variety of leadership roles supporting military space and intelligence missions around the world. 

Major Skrla earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University before completing a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology at the University of Colorado-Boulder.  He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 2013, later earning his commission as an officer in 2017 before joining the U.S. Space Force. 

Skrla currently serves at the University of Colorado-Boulder, where he educates and mentors the next generation of Air and Space Force officers.  He leads the daily operations of the Air Force’s 4^th-largest ROTC detachment, teaching leadership skills and military knowledge to 275 cadets. 

Eric is the son of former Brenham High School Principal Steve Skrla and Dr. Linda Skrla, and the stepson of Donna Skrla. 

Skrla credits his family with fostering a lifelong appreciation for education, service, and investing in others.  He says he is fortunate to have grown up in a community that believed in its young people, adding, “While my career has taken me across the country, Brenham will always be home.”  He says, “This promotion is as much a reflection of their investment in me as it is my own journey.”
