The Blinn College men’s basketball team fell to Region 14 foe Lamar State College-Port Arthur 66-65 on Wednesday at the Kruse Center in Brenham, Texas.

The Buccaneers dropped to 17-9 overall and 11-7 in region play.

For the second time in as many games, Blinn was the victim of a one-point defeat brought upon by last-second free throws.

After the Seahawks earned a trip to the free throw line with 2.4 seconds remaining, they hit both charity buckets to pull ahead. The Bucs were unable to get a shot off on the other end.

Blinn fell to region leader and 12th-ranked Kilgore College 63-62 under identical circumstances on Feb. 14 in Kilgore, Texas.

“It’s tough to see games end that way,” Bucs head coach Scott Schumacher said. “Our guys competed extremely hard tonight and we had our opportunities to take control of the game, we just didn’t take care of business on our end. Give credit to Port Arthur because they battled the entire game and found a way to win the game.”

Freshman guard/forward Ian Sedah led the Bucs with 20 points. Freshman guard Connor Sprattley and freshman forward Rollings Kamanda had 10 apiece. Freshman guard Desmeon Jones added nine points, seven assists, and four steals.

Blinn’s season continues with a region road trip to Paris Junior College at 4 p.m. on Saturday in Paris, Texas.
