Park on South Chappell Hill Street.
City of Brenham officials broke ground this (Tuesday) morning at the site of the Brenham Family Park, located south of the Brenham Crossing Shopping Center on South Chappell Hill Street. The groundbreaking launches the first phase of the 32-acre park project, which will sit on 100 acres donated to the city by Ed and Evelyn Kruse.
Public Works Director Dane Rau said this project has been a dream for years, and the community’s support has allowed it to come closer than ever to reality.

Initial plans call for an amenity pond, a walking and biking trail with lighting, a pedestrian bridge, disc golf, wildflower areas, a restroom facility and parking. Additionally, through a donation by the Betts family on behalf of longtime parks advocate Bill Betts, the park will feature an inclusive playground area.
Mayor Atwood Kenjura called the park “a win-win for the City of Brenham and the residents,” adding that he is particularly looking forward to the pond, saying it will be unique among all Brenham parks.
Officials thanked the Kruse and Betts families, Texas Parks & Wildlife Department and State Senator Lois Kolkhorst, Brenham Community Development Corporation, Brenham Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Brenham City Council, Quiddity Engineering, MBC Management and M2L Associates for their past, present and future involvement with the project.
Rau said the city hopes to have the park ready by November or December and to hold a ribbon cutting before Christmas.
