LABOR DAY GAS PRICES HITTING SEASONAL HIGHS

  

Labor Day gas prices are climbing to record highs for this time of year.

According to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch, the statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel is $3.68, which is up 5 cents from last week, 8 cents up from last month, and up 91 cents from last year’s average price of $2.77.

The average price at reporting gas stations in Brenham is $3.70, with a low of $3.43 and a high of $3.90.

Looking at the metropolitan areas in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average per gallon at $3.95, while drivers in Tyler are spending the least at $3.55.

Nationwide, the average price per gallon is $4.14.  That price is up 6 cents from last week and last month, and it is 94 cents more expensive than the average price of $3.20 a year ago.

According to AAA, the national average for gas has never been above $4 per gallon on Labor Day; the current record is $3.82, set in 2012.  Meanwhile, the national average price of diesel has hit a new all-time high at $5.85 per gallon.
